The Option to Rent a Stairlift

Posted on August 3rd, 2007 in Rental by StairLift

Stairlifts are assistive devices that transport users up and down different floors in their homes. Fortunately, enjoying the benefits of a stairlift is not only limited to those who can purchase one. Anyone else who is suffering from a mobility problem deserves to enjoy these benefits as well. For this reason, most manufacturers and dealers of this assistive device also provide the option to rent a stairlift.

There are several user situations that would warrant the option to rent a stairlift rather than to make an actual purchase. These include users who are leaning towards an interim solution to their mobility problem or those who are inclined to test a product prior to actually deciding on a buying a stairlift.

There are many users who need an interim solution to their mobility issues. They include those who need time to recover from a surgery, those who are recuperating from an illness, those who are moving out of their homes in the near future, and the elderly who for practicality reasons may not foresee a permanent need for one.

Users who are disposed to carrying out a “test-drive” and seeing how it fits in their homes also benefit when they rent a stairlift. Undoubtedly, renting a stairlift is less expensive than purchasing one so it’s an important decision to make. These users will gain more understanding of how the stairlift satisfies their needs. It’s akin to an investment decision that would bode well if they have a basis for their final choice.

As mentioned earlier, renting a stairlift is less expensive than buying one. The costs to rent a stairlift depend on the dealer or supplier of the device. Two cost items are pretty constant with all of them. There will be installation/removal fees and of course, the monthly rental fee. Most dealers require a minimum rent of three to six months but there are those that don’t require a contract or an opt-in period at all. You just have to take the time and compare the different dealer offers and get the one that’s best suited to your needs.

If you rent a stairlift, there’s also the matter of whether you have a straight or curved staircase. Straight stairlifts for rent are normally available in the market. The curved stairlift however presents a more challenging issue. Only a small number of dealers offer it. It’s for the simple reason that curved stairlifts are generally installed to customize to a staircase form. It’s not practical to have a customized curved stairlift installed on a temporary basis. But rather than customizing the stairlift, there are dealers who grant the option to have a transfer platform at the curve installed instead.

The benefits of the stairlift are not exclusively granted to those who can afford to buy one. There are many more circumstances that require its use. Whether it’s for an interim period, a cost saving measure or for making a “test-run”, renting a stairlift is a welcome and viable alternative. Fortunately, we have an option to rent a stairlift. We are assured that our safety and peace of mind are economically within reach.
