Need a Lift in Your Stairs?

Unnoticeably going up and down the stairway is one of our daily activities especially when we ride public transportations, go to the office or shop at the malls. And of course, we walk to and from the stairs in our own homes. However, as we do this unconscious activity; we sometimes get tired or lazy. Worse we might find ourselves in accidents. Installing an elevator or an escalator has been the solution by building-type structures but it is impractical for us in our homes. Thank God! Stairlifts are now in the market.

A stairlift is electric home equipment attached against the wall opposite the stair’s balusters. It has a chair (with an armrest either foldable or not), wherein you sit down or place your stuff as you move up or down the stairs. On some stairlifts, the chair is foldable so if you are carrying bigger boxes you may do so. Or you have a handicap visitor who could not sit down; they can still go to another story by standing.

Like other equipment, stairlifts also have an on/off button; so you can shut it off when not in use. Recent stairlift designs include a switch to adjust the angle of the chair, a speed regulator and a remote control.

In terms of the stairlift’s power source, some has a plug which you can plug in an electrical outlet. Other stairlifts are solar-powered; so you have to recharge the battery. While the most recent ones have both. They have a plug and at the same time a battery is also attached. In any event of a power failure, your stuff, your loved one or even yourself would not get stranded on the stairs.

If you are wondering if installing a stairlift in your homes would require structural changes then the answer is NO! Manufacturers have developed different stairlifts for different kinds of stairs, whether it is straight, curved or spiral.

In any case if you finally decide to have one, don’t worry if you think that a stairlift would be an eye-sore to your home. There are also different designs, colors and fabrics to choose from. Besides, when not in use, you can fold it so it won’t occupy space.

In the meantime, to have or not to have a stairlift would be your question. We know that this would be an added expenditure but we want you to experience what is like to have a stairlift if needed.
