Lift Me Up the Stairs
Everyday, we go about our lives living, be it for security, stability or provisional purposes that we have in mind. There are times that we get tired of paving our way in the streets that we tend to give up on the dreams that we have built and tediously persevered to achieve. Yet, we also forget that there are some people who never gave up on their hopes and dreams, to achieve them and to make a name for them. And they are the handicapped.
During the early times, establishments were not handicapped-friendly. These establishments don’t have ramps for them to pass since they are straddled in wheel chairs; they had a hard time going around, especially to places like malls or schools. As of present, modern technology has made the physically-challenged lives easier and that is thru the creation of handicap stairlift chairs.
From the words stair and lift, it is a mechanical device used to lift people and wheel chairs up and down the stairs with the use of rails. The first handicap stairlift chairs were commercially produced in 1930 and most of them were used by polio victims.
There are different types of handicap stair lift chairs based on usage and design. The handicap straight rail stairlift chairs are commonly used in home with straight stairs with tracks fixed on the staircase steps for the convenience of going up and down the stairs while curved rail stairlift chairs are custom designed to the fixture of the staircases and most of the time, cost more than the straight rail and takes longer to install and manufacture. The wheelchair platform stairlift works like a mini-elevator that is designed to accommodate the user and the wheel chair and is commonly used in buildings with public access and outside private homes with flaps at the sides to prevent the wheel chair from going over the edge and used as ramps. For outdoor usage, outdoor stairlift chairs can either come with perches or platforms with better weatherproofing than the indoor handicap stairlift chairs.
For the handicapped market that are tight on the budget, second-hand handicap stair lift chairs are also available like the straight rail stair lifts can be cut if it is too long or extend the rails using a joining kit. For curved rail stair lifts, they are produced in a modular design that can be adjusted according to one’s preferences but are still covered for safety checks and regulations.
These handicap stairlift chairs, whichever design they may be, are powered by electricity and are designed to shutdown if something goes wrong for the safety of the user. These devices have greatly helped in the flexibility of the user in going around in places while ensuring their safety in their usage. However simple these designs are, they have made the lives of the handicapped better everyday. And they make us remember everyday that it’s always a better to keep believing to achieve our dreams.
