Grow Old Gracefully with an Elderly Stair Lift

Posted on August 25th, 2008 in Home by StairLift

Ageing is a disease that afflicts everybody without exception. From the time we are born, this disease starts to progress as days pass into weeks and weeks into months and months into years in a process that we call “growing old.” From infants, we become toddlers until we reach the fullness of our prime. From there, everything goes downhill—until we become old and grey. As time passes, we grow weaker, more fragile until even the most basic activity that we used to take for granted like walking up and down the short flight of stairs becomes an exhausting, physically demanding task.

Time has finally robbed us of our liberty to move around our house, and we have become prisoners in our own home. We then start thinking of selling our house and move into a bungalow or 1-storey flat. But what about our friends and the community we love that we are going to leave behind? Are we certain that we are going to be able to build new friendships in a new neighborhood? Do we even have time to do that?

Fortunately, there is way to make the process of growing old a bit more comfortable. And we can thank the entrepreneurs and inventors who thought of coming out with home mobility equipment like an elderly stair lift. Is it not wonderful—short of a miracle even, that by simply installing an elderly stair lift, all our “aging” problems go away? Through this home mobility device, we regain our independence to move around our house; rediscover our sense of self-esteem; get rid of the pressure to sell our house and all the happy memories in it; and, get to stay in our own neighborhood and keep our friends. Indeed, buying an elderly stair lift is too small a price to pay for our independence, friendships and happy memories.

Not everyone is knowledgeable about lift technology that is why choosing the right elderly stair lift to install in your home can be a difficult task. Perhaps, the best way to start is to browse the Internet and read about the kinds of stair lifts and the various technologies that they use. Otherwise, you can call reputable manufacturers and suppliers of various elderly stair lift models and ask for a visit from one of their technicians to assess your house. Based on his assessment, the technician will be able to explain to you whether your stair case will require a straight or a curved stair lift; the kind of technology that is most appropriate for you; the amount of money you will need; financing possibilities; maintenance requirements; buying and leasing choices, and a host of other information that you will find useful in arriving at an informed decision.
