The handicapped individual will just have to roll into the platform and control the stair lift. It is clear that wheelchair lifts are not space saving and you should have a wide staircase. However, the platform is foldable.

There are other kinds of stair lifts but most of them adopt the names of the company that designed them and differ only in their amenities. For instance, a lift that is used outdoors is an exterior stair lift.
