Choosing the Right Handicap Stair Lifts
Choosing the right kind of handicap stair lifts can be quite daunting. When it comes to buying the device, there are certain considerations that need to be looked into in order to find the perfect stair lift.
It is important to make the right choice of handicap stair lift because any mistake can be detrimental to the person who is in need of the handicap stair lift. Not too mention that it could give the disabled individual an uncomfortable feeling. Here we will take a look at the factors that should come to mind when choosing a handicap stair lift.
The first consideration when choosing a handicap stair lift is the degree of disability or handicap. Is the person using the handicap stair lift capable of transferring from the wheelchair to the stair lift and vice versa? Can they stand without putting a lot of weight on their two feet without feeling any hassle? If the answer to these two questions is a resounding “no,†then a handicap stair lift will not solve anything. They could be better off with elevator stair lifts so that they can easily move up to the upper level of their homes.
Aside from that, another factor in looking for a handicap stair lift is their ability to get down and press a button. Current models of handicap stair lifts require the disabled to bend down and press a button which is responsible for moving the lift up and down the stairs. Again, if they are not capable of doing this, a handicap stair lift is not the right choice for them.
Another consideration is the handicapped person’s upper body strength. If they are not strong enough to control their upper body, they will find difficulty sitting on the chair of the lift and may realize that they are starting to slip and slide as the lift makes its way up or down the stairs.
Moreover, the handicap stair lift must have a safety belt attached to it. Latest models of lifts come with this feature. However, for people who are trying to save their money and considering buying a used lift, they should check if the device has a safety belt. If it does not have, then try to see if one can be attached to the device. It is likewise vital to test if the seat belt is in tip top shape and working.
These are some of the things that should be considered to ensure that the handicap stair lift is the right one for the person in need of the device.
