A Question of Stairlift Costs
One of the most danger and accident prone areas in the house is the staircase. This is applicable for the elderly or the handicapped who are suffering from difficulty in movement. Injuries in staircases can be fatal. In order to lessen the possibility of falling or getting injured, one should consider purchasing home stairlifts
Invented during the early part of the twentieth century, lifts have been effective in ensuring the safety and protection of people with difficulty moving from one floor to another. Most models have a chair connected to a metal track which covers the entire distance of the stairs. Although they are planted to the wall, the track is usually directed connected to the stairs. The chair is then responsible for moving the user up and down the stairs. This way, the individual will not have to walk in order to reach the higher floor.
Depending on the type of lift, the cost of the equipment would vary. For instance, a straight stairlift would fall somewhere between $14000 to $25000 but the cost would be determined by the features as well as the model of the equipment. They generate their power from electricity although there are some models that have rechargeable batteries so that they can still be operated even with a power failure.
On the other hand, a curved stairlift will be more costly by $10000. Additional expenses could be more than $20000 because curved stairlifts need to be custom built to the size of the staircase. This would require more time.
Shipping and installation of a straight stairlift is shorter compared to a curved model. While the former can be delivered and assembled in a week or two, delivery and installation of a curved lift, on the other hand, may take a minimum of two to more than three months to be constructed and assembled.
Likewise, one should be cautious when purchasing a curved home stairlift. There are many bogus companies that sell this kind of stairlift. Since the track is the most costly part of a curved stairlift, dishonest manufacturers purchase second hand lifts. When they book an order, they heat the second hand track and attach it to the new staircase. As a result, the weaker track is more likely to crack. This is easy to detect as the cost is lower and there is no warranty.
For people with mobility problems such as the elderly and the handicapped, home stairlifts can definitely add to their peace of mind and security.
