Various Stairlift Styles Provide Safety

Caring for someone who needs extra attention especially when the person has difficulty in ambulation is no easy task. One thinks about safety and sense of security. The usual problem with handicapped involves going up and down the stairs where accidental falls happen. Good thing there are machines out there that make transportation easier for these vulnerable groups.

The weak, the physically-challenged, and those with medical condition preventing them to ambulate no longer need to feel helpless and needy. With modern technology and advanced machines, it is easier for people with physical limitations to be empowered. Without outside help, they may go about their daily lives with inventions such as motorized wheelchairs, prosthetics, and different stairlift styles.

Stairlift styles are used for mobility and transfer of persons from one storey or floor to another. The idea is about the same as with other lifts. It elevates objects from a lower floor to a higher storey, the way crates are transported in construction sites. Made up of stainless steel or aluminum rail and a heavy-duty carriage, stairlifts are often installed in in-door staircases. Special stairlifts for outdoors are also available but are made of more weather-proof materials.

There are different stairlift styles to suit various needs. Depending on the kind of stairs and surroundings, stairlifts have different makes. For in-doors and straight stairs, straight rail stairlifts are commonly used. It is easier to set up and is installed to the staircase steps with ease. Winding staircases are quite uncommon but can still be attached with curved rail stairlifts. This needs some individual fitting which may entail meticulous measurement and installment. This would have additional cost compared to the usual straight stair lift.

There may be those who find it difficult to bend their knees like geriatrics and arthritic patients. For this group of people, there are standing stairlifts or perch lifts. The only problem that they may have is balance, but the standing stairlifts have guard hand rails for support. Meanwhile, amputees, those with weakened lower extremities, and those who can’t stand may prefer sitting while being transported hence the chairlifts. Whatever the scenario may be, there are different stairlift styles that will suit an individual.

Different stairlift styles have price range from low-cost (for rentals) to high-cost (for curved rail stairlifts). The budget may be decided upon after choosing which design is most appropriate for your home if indoors and to whom it will cater. However, despite the costs, nothing beats the peace of mind it offers knowing that a loved one is safe from accidental staircase falls.
