Adding the rail of Summit Max stair lift to the staircase will take an hour or more. This can be done by the man of the house with another person. They should be mechanically inclined so that they know how to use a wrench. There are some tools needed like an Allen wrench, a socket with eight inches extension that is three by eight and drill without a cord, an open end type of wrench that is nine by sixteen inches, track brackets, splice bar, plastic chain, clips with adhesive, six inches ties for the wire and hardware for the brackets.

The first step is inserting the rail. First step is to run the rail from the topmost part of the staircase. The second step is to unplug the cord from the AC outlet or taking out the unit’s battery from underneath the chair. The third step is pulling the chair which is made of plastic and the cable that trails with it that is found in the middle of the rail then you should drape it on top of the stair lift. The fourth step is installing the additional rail that should be in between the end portion and the mid portion of the rail. First loosen the screws found on the splice bars and then glide them down to the portion where the track is to be added. Then take out the bolts on the hex which is attached to the brackets of the rail and then slide it down or upwards when you are adjusting it to fit the proper place.

Never let the unit run down to the end of the bottom part for the landing until you stretch the grey wire that you should need to add for the new rail. The length of the wire comes with the lift which is usually coiled near the motor. After you take the seat and the metal panels you should take out the screws to secure the bracket’s chain then you should cut the ties for the wire. Then adjust the length of the wire by running it through the length with the additional rail and pushing or pulling it. Then unsnap the chain in the mid portion and be sure that all of the links are facing one direction. Make sure the clamp is tight and the ties of the wires are tight as well for security. The cable colored gray should not be in the way of the cable’s drum.
