Comparing Different Stair Lift Brands

Posted on July 11th, 2007 in Brands by StairLift

The number of stair lift users has been growing. As evidenced by statistics, the number of stair lift units globally is now one hundred thousand. Based on the types of design, the straight stair lift is around sixty two thousand and the curved chair lift units are thirty two thousand. The largest market for stair lifts is the United Kingdom, where at least thirty six thousand units are sold annually. Despite the current unimpressive numbers of units of stair lifts globally (100,000) it is predicted to grow in the United States alone by ten percent annually.

Acorn Stair Lift:
The acorn stair lift is battery operated that can easily be recharged. It is simply operated by a start and stop button that provides smooth motion and since it is DC operated the chances for electrocution is slim.

It also has chassis roller system and the double tube railing which makes the ride smoother. It provides the feeling of stability due to its 8 rollers that has four times larger contact area than competitors.

It also has electronically and mechanically braking system that makes the user control the motion of the chair. There is also a limit sensor that assures the user that the chair comes to a gentle stop and ends the ride with the user still being in a right position.

Another safety feature that the corn Super Glider provides is that it has five areas that are sensitive to pressure that help the chair to sense when it should stop if there is any obstruction. It also has an over speed governor that makes sure that the user is not traveling at a dangerous speed. It also has a diagnostic digital display system which helps the user identify if there are any malfunctions in the chair before using it.

The Acorn Stair lift also gives the user of whether he would want to control it via infra red remotes or mechanical joystick. These two types of control are already provided when buying the stair lift. Since one control is operated via infrared, when the person is in the wrong end, he can use the remote to bring the chair nearer to him or her.

Summit’s AmeriGlide:
The source of power of the Ameri Guide’s Stair Lift is either DC or AC but it more suggestible to use the DC powered stair lifts. Like the Acorn Glider, the DC model of AmeriGlide runs smooth and quiet as well.

AmeriGlide is easier to maintain because their gear box have vent plugs.  Their vent plugs makes sure that their gear box is sealed and prevents leaks.

The AmeriGlide has sensors on its foot rest that helps it detect if there are some blockages that might cause the chair lift user to be in an accident. A limit switch is also provided to help the chair stop in the position where it was in the bottom or the top of the stairs. Their company also offers a 3 year warranty service.

Ameri Glide has some other features that may vary from the other brands. Here are the following.

• It uses a wide padded seat that can be folded when not in use.
• Foot rest can be adjus5ted to two different heights.
• Backrest has three different positions.
• The user can safely and comfortably mount and dismount the stair chair lift at the bottom and the top of the lift because of its 180 degree swivel seat.
• Can be placed on either side of the stair case
• The control can be put on either arm rest
• Controls can be mounted to the floor at the end of each staircase making it operational by foot.
• Because of that control type, the chair stair lift can be called when it is on the other end and is very useful for households who have more than 1 user of the stair chair lift.

Stannah Stair Lift:
The Stannah Stair Lift Manufacturing Company offers stair lift designs for both the straight and the curved stair cases. The stair lift they offer for the straight stair cases is the Stannah 400 while the stair lift they offer for the curved one is the Stannah 260.

Like the Ameri Glide and the Acorn, it is also a model that runs smoothly and quiet as well. It is also powered by a battery that is automatically charged when it stops at the bottom or the top. Its battery powered motor also ensures the user to stop the chair gently

All Stannah models whether it is for outdoors, curved or straight stairways are all compact which makes them suitable for staircases that are very narrow.

I hope that by being able to compare the three brands, it may help you decide and search further on their respective websites as to what will be the best stair lift for you.
