Second Hand Stair Lift, to Buy or not to Buy?

If you have limited resources or if you think that you will only needing a stair lift for a short time such as after an injury or surgery; then buying a second hand stair lift would not be a bad idea.

First, as we all know a used stair lift would not cost us that much unlike if we buy a new especially branded stair lift.

Second, the money that is saved could be used in the installation of the stair lift or in other things.

Third, if the original owner is kind enough maybe he could show his stairs on he actually installed the stair lift. If both of your stairs of the same structure, design or contour are similar, perhaps it will be easy to set up the lift.

Fourth, you can be sure that screws and bolts are not too tight. However, just see to it that they are not rusty, not too loose and still complete!

Fifth, you could always ask for a demonstration on how it actually works and how to install it.

Let us remind you that when purchasing a used stair lift, aside from the money that you will be saving consider also the following:

First, does the procured stair lift really match the stairs? How about the surrounding wall? Does the stair lift’s color match it? Or has it become an eye sore? How about the length, is the stair lift longer, shorter or just right than the perimeter of your stair?

Second, is the stair lift seat still comfortably to sit on? Does it still have its cotton or spring? Does it become inhabited by mites and / or other insects? Does it still have its seat belt and is it functioning well?

Third, does the bought stair lift need further repairs? Is the electrical system in good condition? Does it have a back-up battery? Does the original stair lift gave you a warranty or assure of any repair for an agreed upon period or time? Will they return your money in any case?

Fourth, does it have the original manual so that when you move out to a new place you could still install and use the stair lift?

Regardless, of actually buying a brand new or second hand, a stair lift is really a good help in your own homes and offices. It carries you and your stuff up and down the stairs reducing tendencies of falling off the stairs.

So which one will you buy now?
